Case Study – Standing Bear Lake
Areas with large bodies of water are the ideal location for nature lovers. Cities often take advantage of their natural resources to provide a scenic alternative for residents. The Standing Bear Lake in Omaha, Nebraska, is a perfect example of a natural resource that benefits from proper maintenance and care.
EZ Dock and the Omaha Parks and Recreation Department collaborated on the floating trail at Standing Bear Lake. The Omaha Parks and Recreation Department chose EZ Dock to provide the materials for the path, as our plastic docks work on any body of water. Learn about how we enhance the Standing Bear Lake with our timeless floating dock products.
Project Specifications
The Omaha Parks and Recreation Department pushed for the creation of a new floating walkway to make the park safer, building a complete loop that didn’t require users to go along the shoulder of a busy road. The floating boardwalk at Lake Weatherford in Weatherford, Texas, inspired this project. Much like the Texas boardwalk, the Standing Bear boardwalk and safety railings stretch across the lake.
This floating trail is 8 feet wide and 975 feet long. It’s anchored to the lakebed, and it will change in height to match the amount of water present in the lake at any time. The trail also includes a kayak and canoe launch, which is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and off-shoots for fishing.
End Results
With the floating dock, the Standing Bear lake is more appealing to residents. Visitors can get closer to nature and enjoy kayaking and canoeing along the water. People can run, bike or walk around the lake and enjoy the sights and sounds of the park.
The path provides overall better access to the lake. The floating walkway at Standing Bear Lake is the perfect addition to the existing trail system.
